As you may remember, our home computer has gone Kapoot! Swift Jim has been letting me use his work laptop while he is home on holidays. (Good man).
Here's the devestating thing. The hard drive (i think) is fully jiggered. We have lost everything. Including ALL our photos.
Swift Jim says he did back some up onto disc a while ago, but how long ago? I have no idea. I havn't printed any pictures off since Ella was about 18 months old. Thats a LONG time ago.
For the nerdy man to see if he can recover the photos it is going to cost between $800 and $2000!! That's money we just dont have. *sigh*
So dear friends, if you have any photos of my dear children. Please email them to me........

No-no-no-no-nooo ... Never believe it until you're sure it's all gone ... argh ... I asked Mr de E if he could be a nerdy friend and look at the drive for you but he said he was "not more so than Swift Jim" ... and I haave faith in Mr de E, so just wait until S-Jim is sure it's all gone first ... argh.
Bloody computers.
Sorry, that's probably the first swear word on 1, 2, 3, 4.
Pete had a good look at it too... no luck. Apparently it needs to go into a vacuum thingo... whatever that is, *sigh*
Oh, no, no, no, no.
I wish I was nerdy and could retrieve them for you, but I'm not, and besides that I'm busy this afternoon backing up my computer.
Sorry to hear about your "devestation"...
Oh, a big thanks for popping into the shop..

Yes, please send some photos of Ellie in her Diva clothes - as long as you're happy for them to be on my blog of course.. :) Christine xo
My brother is such a nerd, and when the same thing happened to my cousin, he managed to retrieve all the photos. You can do the same thing as the (expensive) nerdy computer guy at home, but you'll need another computer on the case. There's free retrieval software online. I will find out what it's called for you.
The photo recovery software is called photorec. You download it to a hard drive that isn't jiggered...and it hunts down photos on the hard drive that is. It ignores file names etc, so it will work even with a damaged hard drive. It just searches for images. So it'll end up finding a whole lot of icons and other pictures you don't need BUT hopefully it will also find your photos. Good luck! www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
Thanks G3, Swift Jim says it would seem to be a mechanical fault in the hard drive.... so not just a software retrieval :(
